nine books and a movie

Watched The Magnificent Seven (the 2016 remake) and rather enjoyed it, even if part of me was watching it as Guardians of the Galaxy in the wild west with less humor, fewer aliens and a lot more character death. I blame Chris Pratt, or possibly Joshua Faraday for being superficially somewhat alike to Peter Quill, plus the whole 'assorted folks of ill repute banding together for a greater good' thingamaplot.

Of course, when you get to 'so Goodnight and Billy are kind of like Groot and Rocket', the comparison breaks down in somewhat of a hurry.

Also wrapped up my reread of Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. I'd owned the second to last book for a while without having read it, but when my copy of League of Dragons arrived, I figured I might as well go and reread the whole series. The amnesia plot in the second to last book didn't quite work for me, but I quite enjoyed the last book and I was quite satisfied with the ending of League of Dragons.

LOL at that timing. I've just finished and posted about League of Dragons too. :-)

Ha! I guess we maybe got our copies around the same time, but still.

I stopped reading somewhere around the fifth book. :/ Would you recommend trying again? I owned them through book six and then sold them to half price books. Whoops! So at least it would be library reading if I tried again.

Depending on the reason you stopped, but probably not? The series doesn't really get better as it proceeds - which is not to say it gets worse, just that, well, I liked the first five books and the last four gave me more of the things I liked about them.

Fair enough. I stopped book five because it felt sort of contrived. I loved the first three, liked the fourth one, and five I started and stopped like six times before I finally quit. :/ Sad but true.

So ... Vasquez as Gamora?

... Not that I ever so slightly ship Faraday with Vasquez or anything. At least, not as much as Goodnight with Billy.

I take Goodnight/Billy as canon. (Is Goodnight Rocket and Billy Groot? I kind of don't like that comparison. Maybe they're other MCU characters. Clint and Natasha??)

Faraday/Vasquez is hot. And I can see the personality parallels to Gamora/Peter

I'd go with Goodnight as Groot (extremely lethal when pushed right, name starts with a G) and Billy as Rocket (rescued by G and communicates with him better than anyone else is able to).

Then again, far-fetched and streched comparison aside, pretty much the only parallel between Goodnight & Billy and Groot & Rocket would be the 'those two guys' aspect, which isn't much. I think maybe the MCU just doesn't do characters like Goodnight?

(Ah well, I did say the comparison broke down at some point.)

I actually just watched it about a week ago, and it was alright. Something missing about it tonally/emotionally maybe in the production end, but lots of explosions which is the preferred.

So many people with cringe worthy accents though, in particular CPratt and precious Matt Bomer, though seriously stop speaking

SPOILERS! (for the general plot + first five minutes of The Magnificent Seven)
Hm. I didn't really feel much when any of the good guys died, but I blamed that mostly on being familiar with the general lines of the plot: I knew going in that people were going to die. (I did wonder at which point people were going to go from 'sure, I'm bored so I'll tag along and take your money!' to 'let us die together for this village because we are heroes!'.)

... At least in the case of Matt Bomer, you got your wish fairly quickly? (Has he ever been in a movie yet where he doesn't die shortly after appearing?)

RE: SPOILERS! (for the general plot + first five minutes of The Magnificent Seven)
he was in uhhhh Magic Mike... I didn't watch it so I don't know if he died or not but it doesn't seem like that kind of movie franchise.

A little bit, right? I mean it was entertaining but I wasn't emotionally attached to any of the characters even matt bomer. I was just seriously happy he stopped speaking XD
