this was inevitable, I guess

This afternoon, I finally gave in to temptation and rushed through C.S. Pacat's Kings Rising in about two hours. I regret nothing, apart from the bit where I'll never again be able to read it for the first time.

Semi-relatedly: I snagged Rachel Aaron's Spirit's End and Jacqueline Koyanagi's Ascension from the bargain bin at the local bookstore for about five bucks each, then felt vaguely guilty as I paid for them because, well, I kind of maybe would have bought them at full price at some point. I just don't usually pass that bookstore at a time when it's open.

Movie-wise, I've rediscovered the brightly colored visual treat of Speed Racer, the 2008 movie with ninjas, stunt racing and a monkey. I also picked up a comics (?) version of it some while back, but the character that's named 'Speed' in the movie is called 'Greg' in the comics, which - okay, sure, considerably more plausible as a first name, but the disconnect is still a bit odd.

Awwwwwwwwwww... that's so nice that you enjoyed the book so much :) I wish I HAD 2 hours to read, but I mostly don't at the moment... :/

Spending two and a half hours on a train to work every day helps a lot [for me to find time to read]. Sorry to hear your life's so busy at the moment!

Third book in a trilogy, and there were happy endings for most characters, so yup! ^_^ (Although I wouldn't recommend it on its own.)

Princes Gambit is definitely my favorite of that trilogy, but the whole thing was a fun read.

I've heard both very good and decidedly meh things about Ascension, so I'm curious to see what you think of it.

(I'd not heard anything at all about Spirit's End, but having googled it now, the series sounds like something I should keep an eye out for.)

SPOILERS FOR KINGS RISING
Plotwise, I think Prices Gambit may be my favorite, but Kings Rising treated me to Laurent manipulating/charming everyone around him for reasons other than survival (well, other than immediate survival) up to and including being Damen's equal in a typical Akielon 'sport of kings', which hit a lot of my guilty pleasure buttons.

Re: SPOILERS FOR KINGS RISING
The oktaon WAS a lot of fun! Rather gratuitous fun, but I was definitely not complaining :)

And Laurent charming the Akielons while Damen looks on adoringly was lovely also.

Well, there are always the fanfics. I'm having a great time watching these guys finally be happy. <3

Ascension has a lot of diversity, but I felt like it had too many ideas that didn't mesh well. I'm curious to know what you'll think of it.

I find myself in the odd state of mind where I want to read all the Damen/Laurent fluffy future fic, but not so much all the Damen/Laurent hot and steamy fic. (Well, the books did include some very nice sex scenes, but, I mean, why would I not want more of that, self?)

Then again: there's a (pretty active) fandom! With fics and fanart! For a book series I loved!

(I don't even remember the last time that happened. Er, maybe Harry Potter, in the early days?)

I'm not big on reading PWPs, but I feel like it works for them. Because all the PWPs have a lot of feelings & characterisation in them.
